I had a long, eloquent post all typed out, but sadly it did not go through.

I was going to comment on the use of medical marijuana (which I use responsibly), and why it should be completely legalized. Either way, all the points I made were mostly re-worded points others have already made so it’s alright.

The main thing I want to comment on is:

“So in conclusion, if you are going to get some medical marijuana, now is probably the best window of opportunity Grab one of our quality glass pipes while you’re at it!”

Yep Alan, I have done both. It’s my birthday on November 17, and I took the opportunity to buy myself the fantastic looking Wild Mushroom pipe. I eagerly wait for it to arrive, and the bowl be filled with some high quality California medical bud. =)

Thanks!

@online payday loan...Thanks for your comment. I don't think you can compare the two at all. We are talking about something that really does not harm anyone.
What do you think medical marijuana acceptance is doing? It's a decriminalization of weed and will eventually lead to the outright legalization. You can't allow a little usage for "medical reasons" and expect that it won't be abused. Public support doesn't mean it isn't immoral. What if enough kiddie porn people got together and people just stopped caring enough to fight them? Eventually casual use of kiddie porn would be accepted and the trip down the slippery slope would be complete. No justification of immorality will ever lead to good.<div class="comment-remix-meta"><a href="#" class="replyto" onclick="replyto('19','online payday loan'); return false;">Reply</a> - <a href="#" class="quote" onclick="quote('19','online payday loan','What do you think medical marijuana acceptance is doing?
Alan, I'm not sure that is the case. Take smoking for example. Everybody knows that it's bad for you and yet so many kids take it up. Cool factor perhaps.

Anyway, wouldn't legalizing it just make it cheaper and more accessible?

BTW, I don't think that plugin is working as there is no option for me to subscribe to these comments?

@Sire...thanks for the reply, I don't know if legalizing it would make it cool...it might for the first little while and then it'll be old news. Look at Amsterdam, the only people making a fuss about are foreigners. Alcohol use was dramatically higher during prohibition (not initially, but within a short time it was up approx. 70% from pre-prohibition era) because of the same reality. I just don't think Government is meant to tell us what to do, they should provide security, justice, and represent the interests of the citizens in foreign policy; I don't feel comfortable with a government that regulates the kind of education we can get, the health care we have access to, the amount of policing we need, what foods we can eat, and coming soon...what you can see on the Internet (if you have seen the hearings with big telecom companies on tv).

Thanks for letting me know about the reply issue...I just installed one but I'm not sure if its working ok. The blog is new as you can see and it needs more work for sure. Really appreciate it!!!<div class="comment-remix-meta"><a href="#" class="replyto" onclick="replyto('12','Alan'); return false;">Reply</a> - <a href="#" class="quote" onclick="quote('12','Alan','@Sire...thanks for the reply, I don\'t know if legalizing it would make it cool...it might for the first little while and then it\'ll be old news.
I know what you are saying Alan, it's just that I've always been of the opinion that once you legalize something that has always been illegal it just puts the stamp of approval on it.

The next thing you know, the next generation will be full of slow moving doped up youngsters who are make less useful contributions to society.

I know over here they have facts to show that a lot of people suffering from mental illness was related to their marijuana habit. It doesn't affect everyone that way, but those prone to it are get affected in a bad way.

Once everyone starts using it because it's legal and 'cool', you would expect a lot more of these type of cases coming to the fore. I would suggest this would put a hell of a lot more pressure on govt. resources.

BTW, you should really consider installing a reply to comment plugin so that people can be informed of updates.

It doesn\'t affect everyone that way, but those prone to it are get affected in a bad way.\r\n\r\nOnce everyone starts using it because it\'s legal and \'cool\', you would expect a lot more of these type of cases coming to the fore. I would suggest this would put a hell of a lot more pressure on govt. resources.\r\n\r\nBTW, you should really consider installing a reply to comment plugin so that people can be informed of updates.\n Sire@WassupBlog&#180;s last blog ..<a href=\"http:\/\/wassupblog.com\/how-to-turn-off-the-internet-on-the-iphone\/\">How To Turn Off The Internet On The iPhone<\/a> '); return false;">Quote

@Keith...Yes, it's a very sad time for America which was once a beacon of hope and freedom. I must say that I was skeptical that Pres. Obama would actually deliver on his campaign promises; I never, however, expected to see him accelerate the Bush policies. You are right about who he works for...they will never let such profitable ventures like the Fed, FDA, Big Pharma and the others take a hit. These are the institutions who set policy through the White House and through Congressmen that they have on their payrolls.<div class="comment-remix-meta"><a href="#" class="replyto" onclick="replyto('10','Alan'); return false;">Reply</a> - <a href="#" class="quote" onclick="quote('10','Alan','@Keith...Yes, it\'s a very sad time for America which was once a beacon of hope and freedom.
Finally, the President takes a step in the right direction. One has to wonder what the angle really is here.

Government exists to protect the rights of the people. That is its only reason for existence. Excuse me, I misspoke. That is the only legitimate reason for government to exist. If only it at least put some effort into fulfilling that reason!

Mr Obama has an opportunity to actually move toward his rhetoric of effecting meaningful change on this issue. And he can increase revenues for the State in a manner that is within the scope of the Constitution at the same time.

So, what will keep the President from this accomplishment? Remember who he actually works for. Lip service says you and me, but experience and hard reality says otherwise. Just like every other President for the last seven decades.

I do not expect any meaningful change, but I do hope that a sane or even a less insane marijuana policy will result.

One last question to further the discussion: Does prohibition work? The answer is yes, if your goal is to create a class of criminals who have harmed no one but possibly themselves. Marijuana prohibition works just as well as alcohol prohibition worked And the goals are apparently the same.

Let's hope he inhales just this once.
